The Corby Open is an exhibition that is a long time coming. I moved to
Corby in the early 80's just in time for the local bookshop and local
woolshop to close. There seemed to be nowhere, apart from W H Smiths to
buy anything remotely like art materials. I think this is probably why
my own work has developed in the way it has due to the lack of access
to materials.

Today, I thought I'd share a little of my design process. Back in
November of last year when I was at the Christmas Market at the Harley
Gallery they asked if I would like to be part of the showcase that was
being planning for the New Year entitled 'Love Letters'. They were
looking for makers who feature text, handwriting and fonts in their

Tell me about your current body of work? My current main work
is producing interesting and thought provoking lighting, sculptures and wall
pieces produced from a mixture of papers and metals. By using various
light sources I am able to display hidden textures and designs often missed
when using a simple item such as a piece of paper. Coupling this with repetition and
manipulating these shapes leaves me able to produce chandeliers and lights with
a different appeal.  I find your work truly stunni...

Workshops
At the beginning of January, I made my usual 6 week trek
up to Manchester to visit my elderly mother. This visit had a few more
added extras a) it was my birthday b) I had a day's work in a school in
Preston.
I
had a fabulous day, working with year 10 and 11 who were working on
their GCSE Art and Design Textile. The girls were great, very keen and
produced some lovely work. I feel honoured that a few asked me for my
autograph, which I have to say is a first.

Sampling
Last week I came across a You Tube video which showed you how to make
paper yarn. I have to say this is not the first time I have visited
this technique but I think it was the drop spindle that put me off. My
attempts without the spindle have been so, so, I twist the strip of
paper between my figures and it becomes a loose yarn with absolutely no
integrity. Interesting none the less. I would say the

Yesterday, outside the National Theatre, under the shelter of a Tee
Pee I was showing children and adults how to make traditional windmills
and origami windmill pin badges. This event brings together a selection
of artists that offer whimsical creations to buy or make, performances
from another era or food you may not have tasted before. Unfortunately,

This morning at about 1.45 am, I discovered that I had been re-tweeted
by Theo Paphitis for the #sbs (Small Business Sunday). What a blast....
This became very obvious when I discovered that my followers had leapt up by 100 and there were about 200 emails from Twitter.
I try and tweet my business every week but quite often forget. I
would say that I have tried about half a dozen times, perhaps ten times

I'm
just back from a week at the seaside, fully rested and refreshed.
Before I went away I was having a play with some different techniques
that I could use with paper.
I wanted to try making a basket using some magazines I had left.
This is something that has been sitting on the back burner (in my head)

 Yesterday, I decided to have a shot at papermaking.
It's ages since I have done it but I had a nice stack of scraps left
over from making my jewellery. I absolutely hate waste, so much so that
I can get slightly cluttered with bits and pieces that in the words of
my mother, 'Will come in, one day'. STAGE ONE When papermaking

18th May, my son's school are celebrating Green Great Britain by
letting the children wear green. The school is an eco school and a Good
Food school. Now he's eleven year's he's that age when he wants to be a
little be more crucial about what he wears. Designing this
T-shirt for him was a breeze as his favourite colour is actually green.

Exhibitions
I received an email informing me that my submission had been accepted for the upcoming 'Paper exhibition at Craft House Concept in Edinburgh. This
is my second 'all paper' exhibition this year. I feel as though I am
finally moving forward. I will be sending one of my book sculptures with
a selection of my 'Organic Repose' range. The downside of exhibiting is
the distance, I always want to be present at the private views but
logistically this is not always possible.

 Last night was spent catching up on my box-making. I needed to make a
few to house some pieces that are going to the 'Ladies Night' event at Byard Art,
Cambridge I remember, when I started creating my jewellery pieces I was
conscious that they needed to be housed safely giving them that
precious feel. I sourced various companies that supplied boxes but they
never really seemed to have what I was looking for. In the end I

Exhibitions
This is an exhibition I am currently taking part in which is taking
place at Forge2 Gallery in Culworth, Northamptonshire. The theme is one
of spring and rebirth, and will incorporate associated topics such as recycling and sustainability. It will run from 8th April until 30th June.

Trade Fairs
I've been so busy that I just haven't had time to show you all the lovely creatives that I came across at BCTF. As

Wow! Has to 
be my first word. I really didn't know what to expect from this event.
It was my first time and the thought of exhibiting at a trade event

Selling Event
You know when  you get one of those moments when you wake up and you just want to do something different. Saturday, was just one. I woke up with SOCK on my mind. Note the capitalization. I don't want you to think I had some sort of strange fetish.

Here's Jessie and Anna, two new ladies who came to my 50+ group at the
Autumn Centre in Corby. They had turned up expecting to be making Royal
Wedding bonnets which in fact we are doing in a few weeks.  Although they were initially disappointed I think I managed to bring smiles to their faces by getting them to join in anyway. We
